HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT

™ . WELLINGTON, April 27. . The following 1S t h e High Commissioner s report, dated London, April (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specined, are average market prices on spot):— Mutton: The market is becoming more depressed on account of kiv,e arrivals, and. the demand has been chiefly for light weight. Canterbury 4|d per lb, heavy weights difficult to sell at Bid; North Island, 4£d for light ■weight. X
Lamb is m fair demand for the better grades. Ike market has been unfavorably affected by the lower prices for mutton. Canterbury twos 6id heavy weights s*d; other than Canterbury, o 15-16 d for light weight. Beef: The market is very dull, and quotations are nominal. ' Hinds 4i fores 3£d. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. Chilled hinds 4|d, fores 3 5-16 d.
Butter: The market is quiet and rather steadier. Danish (fair demand) per cwt, 114s to 116s; New Zealand (fair demand), 106s to 108s, unsalted 114s to 118s; Australian, 100s to 104s exceptionally -choice 108s; Argentine (market slow). 98s to 102s; Siberian (in poor demand), 99s to 102s; American creameries. 98s to 100s. Cheese: The market is firmer with rair demand for New Zealand. Canadian (market quiet), white, per cwt 68s to 70s. colored 69s to 71s; New Zealand, white 61s 6d to 625, colored ZT to^ 4s 6d; Australian, white 58s 6d to 60s colored 62s to 635. Wool: The market is firm, with a hardening tendency for merinos and nne crossbreds of all grades. Prospects are favorable.
Dalgety and Company, Limited, Wellington, have Received cabled advice from their London office, dated 23rd inst., as follows:— Frozen Meat: The market is dull and declining. Since our last cable prices for heavy weight mutton are Id lower, and for any other description any change in prices' is in favor of buyers. For light weights of frozen lamb prices are unchanged. ' Other descriptions are Id per 1b lower. Beef: The market is very weak. Chilled is slow at prices quoted for frozen. The wool market is very firm. We expect a slight rise in prices in merinos in the April-May series. No change is expected in crossbreds.
