ARBITRATION COURT.

THE CARPENTERS' AWARD

BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION

WELLINGTON, March 16. During the hearing of the Wellington carpenters' dispute, before the Arbitration Court last week, in which the men applied for the recent Dunedin award, the employers objected on the ground that the Court, in making the award, rejected the under-rate workers' clause which was inserted in the Wanganui agreement in return for increased wages and shorter hours conceded to the men, and inserted the usual under-rate workers' clause instead. The Wellington employers held out for the original agreement. In the award filed on Saturday the Court has again rejected the W*anganui agreement's clause relating to under-rate workers, and inserted the usual clause, as in the Dunedin award. The Wellington men thereby secure the same concessions as the Dunedin men, without having to pay the price they agreed upon.
