They demanded from the Lord Mayor work for the unemployed. White was ordered by the police to clear the road, and a serious ■conflict ensued. The police dispersed "the procession, their batons injuring several. Three had to be sent to hosrpital. White was injured in the face, and was arrested.

White was bailed out. He was charged with assaulting an inspector, sergeant, two constables, and a mail'vaa driver.

The inspector states that he was struck on the back of the head by a 3>lunt instrument while arresting "White. Meanwhile, the latter struck irim with the blackthorn on the chest, and violently resisted arrest.
