EMBEZZLEMENT,

' WELLINGTON, March 4. Arthur Richards, a young man, pleaded guilnty at the Magistrate's Court to two charges of stealing £1 7e sd, the property of the Labor Department, and lis, the property of the Government.

Mr Macassey, for the Labor Department, stated that the total amount of moneys received by defendant, and unaccounted for from September 13, 1913, to January 26, 1914, was £92 9s 6d, but full restitution had since been made. Accused had been in the Labor Department for three years, and had hitherto borne a good character. On the first charge accused Vas fined £5, or 21 days' imprisonment, and on the second charge he was convicted and ordered to appear for sentence when called upon.
