After the connrmation of the minuted the Executive Committee's action ift appointing Mr Osborne as secretary vice Mr .barmby, resigned, was approved, in moving the confirmation, the president congratulated the Society on securing so able and energetic a secretary. Mr Osborne had had experience in runhmg such functions as garden fetes and he trusted the committee and the public would give him all the assistance possible. The cause was a good and deserving one; other towns had been moving in the direction of brightening their plots, and as every town was what its people made it, it was up to the public of Hawera to heartily support this movement. They must keep pace with their neighboring towns. It was reported in regard to the fernery that it should have concrete or brick foundations. The alteration,from punga posts to this was the recommendation of several nurserymen,, who said that the former was to be avoided as affording too much harbor for insects.
