Mr C. H. Bullard, Commissioner of Crown Lands for Taraiiaki, was a visitor to Hawera on Thursday. A London cablegram states that Miss Eva Booth, daughter of General Booth, is reported to the dying. Lieutenant-Colonel Pringle, of Palmerston North, who has been a visitor to ELawera, returned to his home by this morning's express train. , A New York cable.message reports the death of Mr William Irwin, millionaire, the owner of the island of Lonai. in the Hawaiian Group, which he purchased in 1909 for four shillings. .Irwin. as a, British subject owning American territory, created international complications, but the United Court upheld Irwin's title. i Lieutenant William Johnson, one of the veterans of the Taranaki Maori war, died on Thursday at Inglewood, 74 -years of age. The late- Mr. Johnson was a member of the mounted corps from the beginning to the end of the war,- and saw a good deal of service, taking part in nearly every engsaeirent of note with the exception of Waireka. He served first under Captain de Vaugh, and afterwards under Captain; Mace, N.Z.C. Amongst other '"stiff engagements in which Lieutenant Johnson took part -Was that at "L" Pa, which was the first fight of importance in the war. Mr Johnson farmed for a number of years in the Tarata district, but has latterly lived in Inglewood (says the Daily News).
