CADILLAC. AGAIN AWARDED DEWAR RELIABILITY TROPHY ( Coveted Prize Awarded American Car for Second Time in Five YearsStrenuous Tests by R.A.C. That Determined Winner. BEARING the distinction of being the only make of car in the world to duplicate the achievement, the Cadillac Car has again been awarded the Sir Thomas Dewar trophy by the Royal Automobile Club of Great Britain for ail '4<onnd vehicle efficiency and reliability demonstrated in a series of exhaustive tests made under the supervision of that body. It was five years ago that the Cadillac first won the trophy as the direct result of the degree of standardisation of its parts. A .stock car was dismantled and duplicates for 89 of its parts, selected from stock, used in rebuilding it; r»nly screwdrivers and wrenches were permitted in the rebuilding. The test just completed, whereby the Cadillac is.awarded the trophy for the Second time, involved driving over" 1000 ffi^^^jgijretaad^bftke roads; a careful compilation- oT fuel and oil used—the fuel consumption figured out at 17.17 miles to the gallon and the oil at less than one pint per 1000 miles; tabulation of the number of tinges the electric starter and the electric' Year axle gear was used; the time the lamp** were burning, etc. During the test, I>he speed was maintained practically coifetant at 19.5 miles an hour. The starter was used 130 times, and at the conclusion of the test cranked the engine 1000 times without falter. All the lamps were continuously lighted for 66 hours 17* minutes, though at the end of the trial the side, rear , and speedometer lights continued to turn for 20 horns longer. The twospeed rear axle mechanism was operated 520 times without fail.—Prom Motor World of November 6, 1913. DT C* OODWIN, AGENT, HAWERA.
