The meeting for the purpose of fohriing a branch.-of the Farmers'^Xlnibn here was held on Saturday night i: There was a fair attendance, and Mr W. A. O'.NeiJw'.as, voted to the".chair. Mr O'Neil. explained the objects of the meeting and tlien moved; "Tha^ a branch of the New Zealand Farmers', j Union be formed in Riverlea." This was seconded by Mr G. Gibson. Mr W. Gardner, spoke very strongly in support of the motion, which was carried unanimously.

Mr W. O'Neil was elected presi-; dent; Mr G. Gibson, vice-president; secretary and treasurer, Mr M. F. Voullaire; auditor, Mr E. 0. Ewart; executive committee, Messrs A. Webby, J. Stables, W. Gardner, H. Johns, It. Solley, J. Symes, :Jbhn Malone, T. Murphy, and the president,; vice-president, and secretary. subscription was fixed at 10s per an-i num. It was decided 7 to meet on the first Saturday in every second month. The first meeting will be; held on Feb-" ruary 7, 1914. The following meeting, falling in April, will be v vthe first annual meeting. The flames of, seventeen who had promised ,to join were handed in, and with. oiWets who will probably become members the branch should consist of at least 24 members, and possibly more.

The rough weather last week and during the previous one has done a great deal of destroying turnip and mangel crops, . and also apparently bringing with it the potato blight, for all that I have seen are badly touched with/.it. Most of the mangel crops have been giiite. rujned T and farmers are now sowing -other /crops to replace them.
