He extended his influence and increased his income by. investing in various successful coal, iron, and coke industries,, and is to-day, to mention only hwi more' important offices, director of the Deutsche Bank, of the Shantung Miriiner Company, and of the Allgemeine Electricitaets Gesellschaft, and a member of the Central Committee of the Imperial Bank. His fatheiy who had s attached his wife's name to his own on his marriage, was raised to the Prussian nobility in the year 1906. He and his wife are of Jewish extraction, but have become Christians. He is said to be worth £2,000,----000, and to have an income of £200,000 a. year.
