SPECIAL CONSTABLE ATTACKED.
AUCKLAND, Dec. 21. Several disturbances occurt-ed on the waterfront late last night, the result Ijeing that two men were arrested for assault.
Shortly after 10 p.m., when the Ma-r nuka was preparing to leave for Sydney, two firemen disagreed concerning the. recent strike, &nd, as a result one. named Drewing, was taken into custody. A special constable was attacked shortly after 11 o'clock hy several hoodlums.' He was. knocked senseless and kicked' several times. A seaman came to the rescue, but was set upon by the gang and roughly handled. The police th?<n appeared and arrested "one of the crowd, and from his statements more ai'rests are likely.
