BERLIN, Dec. 20. The evidence; at the court-martial showed that while the shoemaker. Blank was struggling with four soldiers and poHnded by an ensign with a rifle-butt, yon Foerstner stabbed him* yon Foerstner declares that he was obliged to assume that Blank would escape from the soldiers -and assault him. , There was a sensation to-day when Colonel yon Tteuter, officer commanding the regiment concerned, gave .evidence in "which he compared civilian assailants to game that must be brought down in a case of emergency. He testified that at the outset of the trouble* he told yon Foerstner to carry a pistol and use it or his sabre in a case of need. : 3 _ • . , , Lieutenant yon Foerstner was fourid guilty of • inflicting bodily injury, and therefore a milder sentence was imijosed. He has appealed against imprisonment, wbieh means his retirement from the army.
