Mr F. Pirani (chairman of the Wanganui Education Board) and Mr G. D. Braik (Chief Inspector), who. attended the public meeting in Hawera last night, returned to AVanganui"by this morning's express train. The Post's Dunedin correspondent suggests that the, Hon. J. A. Millar will continue to represent Dunedin West for the remainder ; of the present Parliament. Mr Millar's health is showing signs of improvement, but it is inadvisable for him to deliver any lengthy speeches; consequently he will not address his constituents.

The Post's London correspondent writes: ' 'General Godley is on his way back to New Zealand: He left Victoria station on November 8 by the Continental boat train, to join his steamer. The High Commissioner for New Zealand was there to bid him bon voyage. Mr Mackenzie was at St. Paneras station the previous day, when Colonel A. W. Robin left for Tilbury to embark on the Orient liner Orontes for Australia, en route to New Zealand."

Mr W. G. Riddell ,S.M., has been appointed senior stipendiary magistrate at Wellington in succession to the late Dr McArthur. Mr D. G. A. Cooper, at present registrar and sheriff of the Supreme Court at Wellington, has been appointed to succeed Mr Riddell as second magistrate there.
