DAIRY PRODUCE.

The cheese market is very firm, buyers of outputs up to the end of May oileri:■;:' Cls Sd c.i.f. per cwt. Factories, however, have practically all disposed of their outputs. Brisk business hais been done in butter for December shipment—up to 120s per cwt c.i.f., but the situation is easier to-day, and offers are equivalent to 117s per cwt c.i.f. Vancouver is not paying much attention to New Zealand butter just now, where the price exceeds ll|d f.o.b. for shipment over the whole season. Exports from Australia to the United Kingdom from Ist July to 6th December amounted to 10,1433 tons, as against' 8975 i tons for the corresponding period of last year, and 14,384£ for the correspondingperiod of 1911. Shipments were shut out at the time- of sailing, thus leaving 800 tons in store - awaiting shipment • for the closing date of the above figures. The Commonwealth dairymen , are experiencing a heavy production of batter this season as compared with last.- As price* in the United Kingdom promise to be maintained on the: present satisfactory basis, butter should add very materially to the aggregate value of Commonwealth exports at the end of the year. From figures prepared by the Federal Statistician (Mr Knibbs) it is learned that for the ten months of the current year, the exports . amounted to 49,542,5811b5, or 6,000.0001b8 more than last year, to the United Kingdom and other markets. The vatue was £2,291,481, as against £2,231,536 in 1912. The farmer,' then, has made more butter; but has not received the equivalent cash, value of last year, thus endorsing to some extent unfavorable criticisms that were passed in Tboley street, on the-Australian butter of last season. The cry from the United Kingdom is now always for more and more of the choicest quality of butter, margarine in its greatly improved form putting all secondary qualities of the genuine article quite out of court, and at most times of the year are most difficult to move, out of store, where they* have" a tendency to accumulate.— Wellington Poet.
