N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE 4.GENCY CO.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as fo'lows : — On Tuesday, 16th inst, we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford v ards. Owing to the day being exceedingly wet and rough all the stock entered did not come forward, only 338 head being yarded, of which 180 were sold, prices being as follows: 15-months steers, from 565. to 68s; 15-months heifers, 52s 6d to 70s; 2-year-old empty heifers, 76s to 955; store cows, in good demand, small and low conditioned, 60s: to 70s; forward, fair condition, 80s to 92s 6d; younger cows showing condition, up to 117s; fat cows irom 121s to 1255; 15-months bulls, from 67s to 755. On Tuesday, . 16th inst, we also held our monthly sale of wool, sheepskins, tallow, hides, and calfskins, at which there was a fair attendance of buyers. We offered a fair catalogue, which would, have been much larger had the weather been more favorable for (hearing i operations. Competition was very keen for most, lines at a lower range of values consistent with outside values and with recent reductions in London prices. We passed in 'most of the shipping lines, some of which have since been disposed of at an advance of id per lb. Sheepskins were easier in sympathy with wool values, while hides and calfskins have receded consider, ably, but realised fair values consistent w'th quality. We are pleased to report a general improvement in the saving of farmers' skins. The following prices. were made : Crossbred, 8d to Bid; heavy and log stained, 7jd to -7id; crutchings, s£d to 5Jd; pieces, small, and bellies, 4d to sd;dead wool in sacks, 6id; locks, 3£d; sheepskins, butchers' lines, from 7d to 7*d per lb, equal to 8s 9d per skin; threequarter woolled,. 6jd to 7d; medium, s*d to 6id; damaged and inferior, 4£d to sid; pelts, with little wool, 3£d to 4d; lambs' skins,, up to 3£d; tallow, rendered in tins, 22s 6d cwt. Hides: Butchers' lines, light weights, B|d; butchers' cows, 74d to 7Jd; dry cows, 7!d. Calfskins: Fair quality, lOd; fleshy, 7Jd to Bid; cut, 6|d; green, 54d; cut and small, sid. Our next sale will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 1914. On Wednesday, 17th inst, we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Wera yards. O»ving to the preceding day having been so rpugh, the yarding was small, namely. 72 head of cattle, bf which 48 head were sold. Prices as follows : 15-months steers, 745; 2-year-old steers, up tp 89s; 3-year-old steers, 112s.
