CHRISTCHURCH, Dec; 19. The Hon. R. H. Rhodes, Minister of Public Health, referred to-day to the Melbourne cablegram to the effect that Dr. Crompton, the Federal health officer, had Frequently applied for information regarding the condition of the smallpox epidemic in New Zealand, and that wlien the information arrives he would llecide what action to take in connection with the maintenance of the quarantine restrictions against New Zealand visitors. Mr Rhodes said be could not understand the delay on the part of the Federal health inspectors m entirely removing the restrictions, and he gave details showing that full information regarding the enidermc in New Zealand had been supplied to the Federal authorities; also that the Do minion Health Department considered that continuation of restrictions against New Zealand would be ridiculous.
