WANGANUI, tec. 17. Exceptionally heavy rain fell last night, accompanied by a y.'olent gale -and much damage was done to reads -owing to slips and wash-outs, «hile the railway line in many places is ut-der water. Several slips occurred at Kai Iwi, Brunswick, and Wanjjaehu; the re-
sult being that trains are-b! H-ked. but j it is hoped the express to Wel.sugton will get through. • The weather now -shows signs of clearing.
