NEW PLYMOUTH AND WAITARA

At the quarterly meeting of the New Plymouth Watersiders' Union a sarcastic resolution was passed setting: out that as shipowners and agents in New Plymouth are v thoroughly pleased and satisfied with the magnificent work done oh the New .Plymouth wharves by the men of the new arbitration union of: watersiders, the members of this Union are quite contented and fully determined to keep clear of.the waterfront until this industrial dispute is satisfactorily settled, and possibly for ever. ; The Waitara; waterside workers (numbering two) 'struck work on Saturday teoming. On Saturday morning the Tainui, which had been laid up for three weeks, but which had, on the previous day, been. placed in commission with a scratch ' crew, arrived from i Mokau with a load of coal, the major j portion of which was consigned to the; Freezing Works. On her arrival the i two waterside workers refused to discharge her, alleging that she was manned with a "scab" crew. Their places,* however, were soon filled, and the affair is regarded by all, with the exception of the two men who have struck work 'as a joke.-. TIMARU, Dec. 9. i The Union Steam Ship Company's collier Waitemata got a fresh crew and left last evening; for Hobart for orders. Work is going on quietJy and expeditiously. ,
