COMPLIMENTARY.
At the annual meeting of the Winter Show Company,' Mr Gillies intimated that as he would be away from Hawera during the coming year he did hot in--1:«nd to be nominated for election. *
Mr Hooker said, they could not let the occasion pass without expressing to Mr Gillies their appreciation of the ipanner in which he had worked in the ■ interests of the company. Mr Gillies had given a largo amount of time, of hard work and attention to further the ■work «f the Show. He had great pleasure in moving that a hearty vote of thanks he accorded the chairman, and that they put on record their sense of ■ appreciation of his efforts. • Mr J: V. "Wyborn seconded the motion, which was carried with enthusi- • «sm. Mr Gillies briefly returned thanks. fl» said he did rot believe in such an office • being held year after year luce man.. It "was not a. good principle. The best' interests of a society were ■-served -by liaving changes in management. He hoped all the directors would take a fair share in the work of the ' Company and of the Show,, and that they would continue to have success as in the past.
