MEETING OP COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the general committee of the Egmont A. and P. Assertion was held on Saturday. Present: Messrs B. Lysaght (president), R. J. Linn, H. Middleton, J. Giant, T R Exley, T. Tait, McPhillips, A. Jltmtorl J. Hunter. F. Mills, A. Campbell, H. A. Foyster, A, Good, R. Morrissey, Hamilton, A. S. Tonks, S. Tonks, R. H. Nolan, W. ti'Callaghan, Scott, Washer, Brown, and J. F. Gfllanders. The secretary reported that the total receipts were a little under £100 less last year. . _ Considering the adverse weather conditions members considered this very satisfactory. Several suggestions were offered for next year's show. v Mr Middleton suggested thai a good yard and race should be provided for drafting sheep. Mr Campbell considered that in the freezing classes, fat wethers of any age, the animals should not be over six-, tooth. There should also be a receiving pen for cattle, to be divided into two or even four sections. Mr Good suggested that there should be covered in pens for dairy cattle. Mr A. Tonks suggested that the harness horses should be judged on one day and saddle hordes on the other. The committee might also cut out the carriage and coaching class, and make it a class for light"harness stallions. Mr Nolan suggeßtea that the chief stewards should appoint 'their own assistants. Mr Mills spoke in warn! praise of Mr Exley in looking after the feed for stock and suggested that an assistant be obtained for Mr Exley. Exhibitors comnlained that they could do with more help in trucking stock after the show. '! Mr Morrissey'said the jumping-ring should be improved; the dual jumping, lie suggested, should be deleted and replaced by another, a wire jump. He further suggested that a water jump be provided.. More prizes might be given in_-,the pony classes. A number of members considered that more mounted stewards were -necessary ; two were not sufficient. Mr Exley thought a paddock steward should be obtained next year for the; first day of; the show. Mr Foyster suggested "that a holding ring should, be provided, and that spn'-e horses be kept tout of the grounds. Mr Mills said it would be a gpod thing if next year a systematic canvass of the district could be made for entries so as to get a thoroughly representative exhibit of stock around Hawera. Everyone had something worth showing. The president and other members considered this a splendid suggestion. On the motion of Mr Exley, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the Racing Club for grass, to Mr A. Hunter for mangolds, and to those settlers who had loaned their paddocks for paddocking stock.

Mr Lysaght moved a similar vote to the ladies who had so successfully ran the home industries classes, and also to Mr Tait for looking after the but-ter-fat competition. . Mr Grant suggested that in the horse section all single horses should be shown before.pairs or threes, and that the hack classes should also be adjusted. Mr J. Davidson wrote protesting against the two-year-old filly %y Zimmerman, being awarded first prize in the thoroughbred class on the' ground that she is not eligible for entry in the Stud Book. It was deci'led to write for particulars of the b"C«)ding of the horse Mr vv. r »iailey CEltham) protested against i wkpbcket receiving the first prize in the pony leaping competitions, on the ground that the rider was over the ace of 15 years.
