8Y CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Oct. 8. There was a good 'attendance iaaid fine weather for the second day's racing. The surprise of the day was the running of Beragoon and Soltano in the Craven Plate. Duke Foote was a hot favorite, but it was expected that the three-year-olds would give the champion a good race. Soltano was third favorite, but after making the pace for six furlongs he was headed by Duke Foote, and thereafter dropped' back. Beragoon was hard ridden nearly all the way. Duke Foote was loudly cheered on his victory. The following are the results: Second Hurdle Handicap.—Hallmark 1, King Lucre 2, Fiddlestring 3. Fif-" teeen started, including Wimmera, Mraton and Beacon. Marton was favorite, but was badly left, and eventually fell at the mile and three-quarter post. Craven Plate. —Duke Foote 1, Posmatus 2, Gigandra 3. Eight started. Beragoon was fourth, and Soltano last. Time, 2 mm. of sec. Suburban Handicap.—Mando wo 1, Coradil 2, Woolerina 3. Twelve started. C. Emmerson rode the winner. Grantham Stakes. —Marculpus 1, Larelle 2, Cedilla 3. Gimcrack Stakes. —Woorak 1, Carlita , 2, Makea 3. ! Sydney Handicap.—Allured 1, Limelight 2, Sir Vive 3. Ten started, including Midnight Sun, who finished fourth. Woorak's time, 54J sec, in the Gimcrack Stakes, is a second faster than Merriment's long-established record.
