MOKAU.
PROPOSALS FOR DEVELOPMENT
At a large meeting of settlers and business men at Mokau on Saturday (the Taranaki Herald reports), the following resolutions were carried: — "That this meeting is of the opinion that, in the interest of settlement generally, the Government should carry out the promise made by it 13 year's 5,^0, and complete and metal the main load between Waitara and Te Kuiti." '-That the attention of the Government be drawn to the advantages that would accrue from the opening up of 1 ie upper reaches of the Mokau river for launch traffic." "That this meeting is of the opinion that the time has come when the local bodies interested should make the necessary arrangements for the construction of a bridge over the Mokau river." At the conclusion of the business the meeting elected a progressive committee to further matters already discussed, and also to watch the interests of the district in general.
