OBITUARY.

MRS R. GILLIES

The death occurred yesterday-of Mrs Robert Gillies, at the age of 65 years, at her residence, Birtley, Judge's" Bay, Parnell. Mrs Gillies, who was a daughter of the late Mr Charles Street, was bora in London, and with her parents and grand-parents came to New Zealand 60 years ago, and settled in Otago. She married l\lr Robert Gillies, a brother of the late Judge Gillies, 47 years ago. Her husband, who died about* 28 years ago, represented the constituency of Bruce in Parliament for many years, and \ was well known in political and educational circles in Dunedin. The late Mrs Gillies always took a keen interest in all church matters, and was also very interested" in kindergarten work," being one of the originators of the first kindergarten in Dunedin. . She was a very old resident of Parnell, and was greatly respected by a wide circle of friends. She had been an invalid for some years. The deceased had.a family of eight, of whom there are still living. Mr P. C. Gillies (South Canterbury). Mr A. W. Gillies (Hawera), Mr H. T. Gillies (Hamilton), Dr. H. D. Gillies Mrs Michell (Cambridge, England), and Miss Gillies (Parnell). . The interment is to take place in Dunedin on Thursday.—N.Z. Herald, September 8.
