AUSTRALIA v. NEW ZEALAND
BY TELEGRAPH—PEESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. The first Rugby test match Australia v. New Zealand was played at the Athletic Park on Saturday, and resulted in an easy win for the local team, who, on heavy ground, were superior at practically all points. Four spells of twenty minutes each were played. New Zealand led by 11 to 5 at lialf time, the Blacks" adapting themselves better to the disagreeable conditions. The visitors played four three-quarters and two halves, but on the day and ground the value of such combination was not discernible. The Australians managed, to cross the New Zealand line but once. All through the second spell the visitors were hemmed in. Tries came in quick succession. Towards the, end Australia faded right out, and when the final bell rang the scores were: New Zealand 30 Australia 5
