_ A London message states that Mr William Bateson, M.A., F.A.S.C., wilL be president of the British Association during its visit to Australia. The Southland Education Board on * nday received the resignation of R'r Edmond Webber, headmaster of the bouth school, as from January 1 next Mr Webber has been engaged for 44 years in the work of education in New Zealand, 36 years having been pnssed in the service of the Southland Board.
