Board members may consult him in regard to a certain drainage and other matters. Persons smoking in the Town Hall drew a, lengthy discussion.. It was resolved that the Clerk have proper notices printed; stating that anyone found smoking in the hall will be prosecuted. Three members were appointed^ to inspect the upstairs portion of the hall, with a. view to having alterations ' made to the seating-," which is at present in a bad state of repair. The Clerk was instructed to notify the Ranger to be present at next meeting. Messrs Borrie and Glenn were appointed a deputation to wait on the County Council with a view to obtaining the use of their steam roller for a day for scarifying purposes. A large number of Church of England parishioners assembled at the Town Hall on Thursday evening for the piirpose of making presentations and bidding farewell to Mr and Mrs Kissling, Vho have been long and active members of the church. HOCKEY. A ladies' hockey match between Hawera and Manaia was played at Manaia on Wednesday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the former team by 4 goals to 3. * SHOOTING. In the shoot off for Mr Phipps' medal for the best shot during the season, Mr W. J. McDonald won with 9 out of 12 birds. Four separate Is sweepstakes, first miss out. were won by Mr Fraser '(2), Mr Preo (1) and Mr McDonald (1).
