TRADES' UNION CONGRESS.
CABLE—PBESB ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. (Received Sept. 5. 12.40 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 4. The Manchester Trar]e I)nion Congress rejected a motion that voluntary agreements should be legally enforceable. The Congress favored a minimum wage fur all adults, and demanded that the Government should cease making contracts with firms where .women's wages were below £1. ■ , The Congre&g loudly applauded the German and French delegates' reference to the workmen's growing influence jigainst war. All the chief railway centres have sent -resolutions to the executive of the National Union urging them to terminate 'Conciliation Boards. The Congress in view of the continued rise* of the cost of living, resolved in "favor of trades unions' early and simultaneous action to obtain an increase of five shillings weekly for all grades of j time and piece workers in public or private employ.
