PRESENTATION TO MISS CHRISTIANSEN.

On Monday evening a farewell social and presentation were tendered to Miss Christiansen in the supper room at th« hall, when there was a good gathering of her friends. A programme of musical and elocutionary items ■ was gone through by local performers, and was thoroughly appreciated. Those who contributed were Mrs Betts, Misses Betts, F. Williams and Joll, Sisters Phactere and Esther, and Messrs Blackman, Penny, Tippett, ond C. Barclay. In making the presentation Mr G. Betts referred to the many good qualities possessed by Miss Christiansen, and to the ready, though unostentatious, help which she had at all times been ready to give to any deserving cause. He was sorry that' Miss Christiansen was leaving Okaiawa, but was glad that she tvas not allowed to go without receiving some tangible proof of the very high esteem in vhich she was held. Mr Betts then handed to Miss Christiansen a silver biscuit barrel and a silver cake dish, and expressed the hope that they would serve to remind her of her old home and old friends m Okaiawa. Should =he ever return there would always be a warm welcome waiting for her. The Rev. D. N. McKenzie, speaking on behalf of the church people, regretted Miss Christiansen's departure. Her help in connection with the church had been invaluable, the more so on account of the quiet, unassuming manner in which it was given. He had not known Miss Christiansen very long. >. it iii that comparatively she-vt period had been able to recognise her sterling worth. She had been a most consistent worker,, and had always had the courage of her convictions. Mr McKenzie concluded by wishing Miss Christiansen the utmost happiness and prosperity in her new home. Mr T. Innes also spoke in rppreciation of Miss Christiansen's work in connection with the Sunchy School. The pupils and teachers alike were extremely sorry to lose her, and she would take away with her their sincere wishes for a bright and happy future . Mr A. Smith, replied on behalf of Miss Christiansen, thanking all those presentfor their many kind words and for their beautiful presents, and extending to all her friends a warm invitation to visit her at any time in h»r new home. Supper was then handed round, and before dispersing "Auld Lang Syne" and 'They Are Jolly Good Fellows" were heartily sung. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Betts and Miss William*. Miss Christiansen was married yesterday to Mr Alex. Smith, and left foilier new home in Central Otago
