AWATUNA EAST.

(From a Correspondents

A very successful evening party was held last' Friday, 13th instant, at the Awatuna Hall by the. Methodist congregation and friends. Amusing parlor games were enjoyed by young and old. Musical items were rendered by the Kaponga choir, Awatuna quartette party, Miss Rands, Rev.' Rands, ' Messrs Thomas King, and others. Opportunity was taken to bid God-speed to Mr .McGechie and family as they are shortly leaving the district. The Rev. Mr Rands, Messrs Surrey and Silby voiced the regret of the Awatuna people at their departure, expressing the good feeling that had always existed between them and their neighbors during the time they have resided amongst us, a<nd their ready willingness to assist in any forward movement for the church or district. Mr McGechie, in a few well chosen words, thanked the company for their expressions of esteem and goodwill. Supper was handed round by the ladies and brought to a close a very pleasant evening's entertainmeiir.

The residents and congregation of the Awatuna Methodist Church are making great improvements in the surroundings of their place of worship.by planting a hedge and shelter trees and in erecting a picket fence along the frontage. The Presbyterian Church have decided to hold occasional evening services at Awatuna and have arranged with the Methodists to use for the present, their building, which is a very comfortable one. This-will be much appreciated, by the congregation, especially during the | winter months.
