The first balance-sheet of the Commonwealth Bank has been issued. It deals with the period ended on December 31 last. The liabilities at that date were: — Bills payable, etc.. £382; savings bank depositors' balances, £612,2.94; total, £612,676. The assets were:—Coin, bullion, and cash balances. £185.011; investments, £360,400 (comprising British and Colonial Government securities £120,400, and fixed deposits of other banks £240,000); bills receivable, advances to customers, etc., £22,704; bank premises, £30,000: total, £593,115. The liabilities of the savings bank department on December 31 were set down at £619,147, and the assets at £601.848. . The liabilities included: Depositors' balances, £12,294; and liability to xthe general banking department for proportion of expenditure and rents received, ,t6853. The assets included: Cash at bankers, £183,743; investment account, £360,400; and advances to general banking department, £45,000. The losses for the half-year ended December 31 are set down at £14,606. The revenue and redemption accounts then stood at nil.
