At Stratford on Tuesday evening, Dr A. D. Carbery, who is leaving shortly on a visit to England, was made the reci- ! pient of presentations from the residents ■of the town and from the local Oddfellows' Lodge. A presentation was to have been made to ex-Supenntendent McAneny at the annual meeting of the Hawera- Fire Brigade on Wednesday evening, but he was unable to be present. j A _ I Loi? do 1 n cablegram announces tho death of the Rev. He was a great social worker, tho pioneer of university settlements, and one of the founders of Tovnbee Hall tils widow is also an active philanthropist, having founded several associations and initiated the Hampstead Garden suburb. An event of no small importance i>nd interest to people of Te Kiri will take place to-morrow (Friday) at 8 p m when Mr C. A. Wilkinson, M.P.. win declare the new hall open.
