Iwo employees of the Cnion Steamship Company were in. the local office or the last evening in connection with the- arrival: of: the company's steamers. One. of them -.turned on-the electric light in the strong-room in order to obtain some papers^ Shoi-t--ly afterwards he heard a crackling noise and, found the papers ablaze. The' fire was speedily extinguished, but several documents were badly charred. Nothing valuable was destroyed. The fire was caused by the fusing of an electric light wire close to some papers on a Shelf.
