On 1< nday a farewell afternoon tea was given by Mrs Hair for Mrs French who. is leaving Manaia for .HaWera .shortly. The weather was fine and about forty ladies were present. Mrs Bennett feelingly expressed* the regret they felt at losing one of iheir number who had, m a variety of ways, taken an active and useful part in the social me of the community during her residence in Manaia,..and conveyed their hearty good wishes for her continued welfare and happiness in the neighboring town. Mrs French suitably responded, indicating the pleasure she had derived from her association with the various clubs, societies, and entertainments with winch she had been connected during her stay in Manaia, and reciprocating the good wishes -f her tnends.

It is understood that legal action will be taken by Mr Slianahan against the owner of an unlighted waggon with which his trap collided last week on the.Manaia road. The trap was totally wrecked and two pt Mr Shai^ihan's daughters were more or-less -injured. 1 sun pleased to hear both are now convalescent.
