WORK AND WAGES.
THE SHEARERS' CONFERENCE
BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.
WELLINGTON, June 5. A conference of representatives of sheep-owners and shearers was held in Wellington to discuss the shearers' demands. After two and a half hours' discussion, no agreement on any of the clauses in the shearers' demands was reached, consequently the shearers' executive has decided that the men shall not make any engagements for the coming season at less than 22s 6d per hundred for blade shearing, and 20s for machine, the rates specified in the demands. Australian shearers have been cabled accordingly, and advised to stay away.
