THE WOMEN'S WELCOME

AUCKLAND, June 5. A large and enthusiastic meeting, under the auspices of the Women's Branch Reform League, welcomed Mr Allen home in the Town Hall last night. Among those present were Messrs Massey, Rhodes, Herries and Dr Pomare, and several district members of Parliament. In speaking, Mr Allen referred to the financial operations in London, and contended that the credit of the country now stood higher than ever. With regard to defence, he said that he could say nothing at present, but a statemnet would be made shortly t-y Mr Massey. The country would,' he felt sure, be ready to shoulder its responsibilities and do its part in Empire defence en sea and land.
