Mr F. G. Treweek has been appointed organist ol St. Mary's Church, Hawera. Keren-ing to the death of Mrs Evans and the return to England of Commonder ii.vans, the correspondent of the Wellington Post writes:— The homecoming was quite private and informal L.ady bcott, with true womanly sympathy, niacie a special journey to Charing Cross m order to greet Commander iyans, and to offer to him in his hour ot sorrow a word of comfort and a welcome. On the loth a severe operation was performed. When Naples was reached on Thursday Mrs Evans was conscious, but at half-past two on I'riday morning she became worse and sank gradually, death occurrincr about midnight on the 18th. The funeril took place at Toulon, the officers of the Otranto acting as bearers,, and the mourners included Miss Ada Stringer (Christchureh), aunt of Mrs Evans, wha had been m Cairo for a month with her sister, Mrs Scott Cairns.
