RAILWAY APPEAL BOARD

BT TBr.ESBAPB—PEBBS ABBOCIATIOH. INVERCARGILL, April 22. The Railway Appeal Board sat in invercargill to-day: J. Smart,- formerly stationmaster at Lumsden, appealed against his dismissal after 35 years' service. The Department had made the dismissal on the grounds of lack of control and supervision, and other irregularities in railway working. The Chief Postmaster stated that he considered Smart a very capable officer. Appellant gave evidence that he had had an exceptional amount of work to cope with, which he attributed to shortage of the staff. A prohibition order had been taken out against him, but there was absolutely no necessity for the order being granted. He .had been fined £2 for unsatisfactory ac-<-§unting, and had been warned that any further irregularities would make him Habl© to instant dismissal. •'■• Decision was reserved. W. S. Pauley, John Sheehan, and William Solomon Shepherds (guards) appealed against being superseded and not recommended for promotion... .V©' cisions in these cases were reserved*. i
