The iate Mr Horace Romana Baker, whose death occurred at New Plymouth on October 16, was a musician of considerable ability. In his earlier days he was a member of two of the crack military bands of the English Army, being an excellent cornet player. At Wanganui in the early seventies he was bandmaster of a band which, however, dropped out of existence a little , later, being succeeded in 1875 by one formed by Mr W. F. Gordon, now of New Plymouth. The late Mr Baker's son, also Horace R. Baker, may be remembered by local players as having taken a leading part in a performance of '"The Yeomen of the Guard" by Hawera amateurs at the Theatre Royal here some years ago.--Taranaki Herald.
