INTERVIEW
WITH THE PRIME
MINISTER

WELLINGTON, Aug. 2. Meessrs Laracy and Kennedy, representing the Canterbury Farm Labourers' Union, waited on the Minister of Labour yesterday, being introduced by Mr Laurenson, M. P. They stated thai the provisions of the Shearers and Agricultural Labourers' Accommodation Act, relating to agricultural labourers, had not been enforced, and urged that inspectors be appointed in order that the Act may be put into operation. They also asked that the Union have a right to nominate inspectors, and that members of the Union be given power to visit farms for the purpose of having access to the workers, as was done in other industries. They stated that threshing mill contrr^tors in many instances do not provide proper accommodation for their employees. Four or five insoectors were considered sufficient for the dominion, and the speakers offered to 00-operate with the Government in enforcing the Act. Mr Massey replied that he would go earefullv into the matters and recommend Cabinet to cive effect to the wishes of the deputation.
