FIRE ON A STEAMER.

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 2. A fire broke out on the passenger steamer J. A. Kilborn, while off the coast on Wednesday night. A few passengers were injured. While an oiler was replenishing the fuel in the oil- l tanks he slipped, and a fire broke out. The ventilators fanned the blaze, which enveloped the ship. The wireless operator, while sending calls for help, was driven from his room by the smoke'and flames..

hTe crew worked all night, and saved the ship from sinking, and she limped into Eureka, California. Two years ago the Kilborn was burnt to the water-line.
