NEWCASTLE COLLIERS' AWARD.
SYDNEY, Aug. 2. The award of the joint Conciliation Board appointed to enquire into the Newcastle colliery trouble, particularly the miners' demand for the abolition of* the afternoon shift, while refusing to abolish this shift, recognises that the men's claims are worthy of special consideration. The award embodies a revised scale of wages, wheelers and surfacemen carrying an increase of Is to Is 6d a day. Eight shillings a day is fixed as the minimum rate to any class of colliery laborers.
