SOUTHLAND'S EXPERIENCE

At a meeting fo the Southland Education Board to-day a motion was passed calling the attention of tne department to the inadequacy of the present facilities for training teachers in the -Southland district- It was decided to consult the department as to the probability of meeting the difficulty by the importation of teachers. If the department is unfavorable to importation, it ••yUI be requested to assist financially in ■^he establishment of two model schools In the district. _.__„,... ~ The chairman (Mr D. CJilchrist) said that it was not worth while importing incompetent teachers, and it was not likelvthat competent teachers arriving/in this country would submit to be%^-sent to the backblocks.
