NEWTON KING'S WEEKLY REPORT

On Monday, July 1, I held a clearing sale on account of Messrs T. Winter ana Sons, with a fair attendance and a good demand for the cows, which were mostly Shorthorn and in good condition. Best young cows realised from £9 10s to £13 10s; second grade, £6 10s to £8 15s ■, backward and aged, £4 10s to £6 os; same nice 2-^-year in calf heifers sold, after keen competition, at £6 10s to £8 12s 6d; 2-year Shorthorn bulls, £4 5s to £5 2s 6d ; mixed weaners to yearlings, £2 Is; empty 20-month heifers, £3 lls; three-quarter draught gelding, £30; gig mare, £15 10s; long-snafter gig, £17 los.

On Tuesday, July 2, I had a good attendance at the Bird road, Stratford, for Mr W. E. Aisch's clearing sale. The cows were not in good condition and there were a good many aged, but they realised very satisfactory prices, as follows: Best cows, £8 5s to £10 10s; second grades, £5 los to £7 10s; aged and late, £4 to £5 10s; in calf heifers, £5 10s: stack of hay, £30 10s.

On the same day in my Rahotu yards I had a very ,good entry of cattle and a large and representative attendance of buyers. A nice line of 70 20-month steers were yarded by Mr P. Willcox, and sold under the hammer after good competition at £3 14s. Other prices were: Mixed weaners, 7s to £1 2s 6d; yearling heifers, £2 7s to £3 Is; poor, £1 6s 6d; yearling steers, £1 9s to £2; mixed yearlings, £1 9s 6d to £1 13s; empty heifers, £3 6s; 2-year bulls, £1 10s to £2 10s; store cows £2 5s to £3 2s 6d; aged store cows, £1 2s 6d to £1 15s; dairy cows £4 12s 6d to £8 ss; choice in-calf heifers, £9; good, £4 15s to £5 17s tid; small, £3 15s to £4 ss. On the same day, after the Rahotu sale, 1 offered Mr F. Chapman's Rahq.tu properties, which realised for the homestead and 25 acres £30 10s per acre to Air Vincent Tyrrell, the other iarm of 49 acres being bought by Mr jJ. Wiilcox at £19 per acre. Dairy cows on acount of the same vendor sold at from £9 to £11 10s for best.; others, £6 los to £/ lUs; yearling heifers, £2 2s 6d,

On Wednesday, July 3, in conjunction witn Messrs Gillies and Nalder, of iiawera, 1 auctioned Mr Jb\ J. Johnston's .pedigree and grade Holstein cows at tne Waim farm. There was a very large attenaance, including buyers from YYairarapa and I'almerston North. The cattle were not lookmig at their best, oemg in poor condition, but elicited very keen competition. Pedigree cows realised from 24 to t>9 guineas, pedigree yearling heirers lti£ to oO guineas; pedigree heifer calves, 17 to 18 guineas; pedigree bulls, 40 to 50 guineas; pedigree bull calves, 11 to 37 guineas; grade Hoistem cows, £13 to £24 3s. averaging over £lo 10s for the linegrade yearling bulls, £4 10s to £11 10s; grade yearling heifers, £6 to £12 12s.

On -Thursday, July 4, I held a very successful sale on acount of Mr E. Kell)----ber on tiie loko road. The cows included some nice grade Jerseys, and sold well, averaging ior tne liiie 2 including several aged and empty, over £9 os. Prices realised were: hoy best quality young cows, £10 10 to £14 10s; good aged cows, £7 10s to £(J 10s; second grade, £3 10s to £6 os; 2-year bull, £3 17s 6d; very choice 2-year in calf Jersey heifers, £9 os to £11; small line ot well-done Jersey yearling heifers, £4 6s; shorthorn yearlings, £2 12s; dogcart, £25; half-draugnt mare, £lb; 2-year colt, £13 10s. At Waiwakaiho yards on Friday, July 6,there was a good entry of all classes, with fair competition throughout. Good cows were best in demand. A herd of dairy cows from Messrs Hill and Kiicliie, of the Upper Carrington road, were yarded. Prices realised were: — From £6 os to £8 5s for best, and £4 12s o"d to £5 12s 6d for others; very aged cows irom £2 2s 6d to £3 12s 6d. In the store cattle yards prices obtained were: Yearling'heifers, £1 15s to £2 15s 6d; yearling steers, bad colored, 10s to £1 9s 6d; empty Jersey 20----months heifers, £4 14s to £4 16s; .grades, £3 11s 6d; in-calf 2-year heifers, £4 5s to £6 6s, acordiug to quality; .guaranteed cows, £4 7s 6d to £6 15s; .others, aged, £2 12s 6d to £3 15s; 2year steers, very good, £3 16s: bulls, £3 Is; aged store cows, £1 13s'6d to £2 8s 6d; store cows, £2 14s to £3 10s; fat heifers, £3 17s 6d; 2, 4 and 6-tooth ewes in iamb, 15s sd. At Toko, on Monday, I had only a smal' yarding, which realised as follows:—Mixed yearlings, £1 16s to £1 17s 6d; small, £1 Is; 18-months steers, £3; yearling bulls, £1 17s; 20-month ui-calf heifers, good, £5 ss; small, £3 19s; dairy cows, £10 ss; empty 20----months heifers, £3 12s 6d; good forward cows, £4 15s; 2 and" 4-tooth wethers, 16s 3d.
