DAIRY PRODUCE.

There is little or no New Zealand cheese now going forward to Australia, the prices there having declined. Several Taranaki dairy factories, controlling classic .brands, are asking 13d per lb. for butter, notwithstanding the low prices in London, amd the fact that it will soon be time time to think about the disposal of next season's output. Butter is obtainable, however, at 12d to 12£ d, but it is reported to be not of the super first grade description. It is freely reported that a rise in the distributing price is pending, but there is no conhrmation obtainable and no change has yet been made in the price. In Sydney, when the last mail left, the ruling rate was 138s for choicest, while at th© same time Tooley-street reported the market dull, and New South Wales selling at 106s to 108s in London. It is believed that the Sydney price has not yet reached its maximum, as several States are reported to be short. Exports of Australian butter for the 12 months ended June 29 last, compared with previous 12 monthly shipments, were as follows:— 1908-9 15,585 1909-10 29,767* 1910-11 45,716 1911-12 31,5591 The London cheese market is decidely weaker, but the local price remains high, 7d being paid for mediums for domestic consumption. Tlie Montreal Trade Bulletin of June 1 reports that there is considerable difference of opinion among dealers and shippers regarding the prices of finest creamery butter, some of them reporting sales at 27 cents (13 id), while others give purchases at 26| cents. It has been found, however, that butter of the primest quality is difficult to obtain under 27 cents. With regard to cheese, the Bulletin reports that a number of factories are changing their make from butter to cheese, and the June make of cheese was expected to be unusually heavy.— Wellington Post.

POTATOES AND ONIONS

Potatoes: The Westralia brought a small shipment of 809 sacks, but the market is fairly well supplied. Potatoes are very much firmer in the South than they have ben for some litttle time and an advance of quite 20s per ton has token place on last week's quotations. There is also an advance in price in Sydney, to which place Southern ship-* pei-s are consigning. Price here is £7. Seed Potatoes: A fair demand exists for Northern Stars, Up-to-dates. and Early Rose, but the main business has not yet set in. Heavier sales will take place towards the end of the month or early next month.

Onions: The Westralia brought 337 bags from the South to a market that was almost bare of stock. The quality of this shipment is rather better than has been the case for some little while. Price is now firm at £13 10s.—Auckland News.
