SUGGESTIONS FOR A SETTLEMENT

REEFTON, July 12. The Citizens' Committee to-day received a telegram from Sir A. R. Guinp.e?s stating that the deadlock had been referred to the Arbitration Court. Ii is suggested that, pending a decision, work should be resumed at the mines.
A deputation waited on the general manager of the Consolidated Goldfields and presented the suggestion. Mr Evans agreed to forward the proposition to the Mine Owners' Associat'i«n. Owing to the exodus, the single men oomin-g off the road works have not swelled the union roll as much as was expected. Only 19 name* have been recorded as an inr>.-er.« e . The eowatv is still employing all the men it- possibly' can.
