THE WAIHI STRIKE

APPEAL TO AUCKLAND CHAMBER

OF COMMERCE

BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS

AUCKLAND, Jaly 12. The Auckland Chamber of Commerce received from the Waihi Chamber of Commerce a letter enquiring if any proper organisation hadl been formed in Auckland to assist the engine-drivers at Waihi to maintain the position they had taken up in connection with the strike, and urging that the men were bearing -fehe "burden of the fight 011 the employers' behalf, and unless financial assistance from outside was forthcoming they might abandon their position. A reply has been sent that the Auckland Chamber had no desire to favor either side in the dispute in'any way; that no organisation had been formed to deal with the question of relief; and that the Chamber "believed the attitude of the employers was that it was no f desirable to interfere between the parties concerned.

A Press Association message 'from Blenheim states that William Aldridge jun., and Edward Corlet, both single men, were drowned yesterday, through an oil-launch eapsizing in the breakers whilst crossing the Wairau bar. The 'bodies were recovered. PIANOS WITHOUT TROUBLE.
