THE CUSTOMS TARIFF.

NO ALTERATIONS CONTEMPLATED

BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION

WELLINGTON, July 11. A statement was made by Mr Fisher (Minister of Customs) this evening that owing to the uncertainty which existed in the minds of importers throughout the length and breadth of the dominion upon the question of the amendment of the Customs tariff, the Cabinet has decided that during the coming session of Parliament there will be no amendment of the Customs tariff. This statement is made solely with a view to allaying the anxiety of importers, whose business may be affected by the uncertainty created by public statements that have been made recently in the House. In the meantime the Minister of Customs is going into the correspondence with the Prim© Minister of the Commonwealth regarding the reciprocity proposals which have been put forward by the Australian Government.
