SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of the Eltham District High School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs T. G. Githeroe (chairman), G. H. Pratt, E. Brerifcter. L. Libeau, R. Richards, and J. La-e Murray.

The headmaster reported that the attendance for the past month had averaged 283, the decrease being largely due to mumps. Twenty-one families we're affected, and 45 pupils were ill through mumps or quarantined.—Received.

In answer to an application from the Board for drain-pipes, the Board replied that they required an estimate of cost; also an estimate of the cost to improve the lighting of No. 2 room, as suggested }>y the Chief Inspector.—Received. The Rev. R. Richards, for the visitiixj- committee, reported that he had visited the school, and found everything satisfactory.

The janitor reported that he had been fro'mg on with the earthworks, which were started last month, and hoped to hfp-e them finished next week.

The inspector's report was read and received, and it was considered satisfactory

Accounts amounting to £o 2s 2d were parsed for payment. The statement of finance was f>s follows: Overdraft at. bank. £65 6s 7d ; receipts in view, £4S 3s 6d; debit, £17 3s Id.

In answer to Mr Murray, the ohaivr^rtn stated that he did not see how they could carry on unless the Borough Council granted them a subsidy.
