AN EXCELLENT DISPLAY.

PALMERSTON N. } June 25. Tlie ninth annual winter show was opened here to-day by the Governor, who congratulated all connected with the show on the fine standard of excellence of all the exhibits. The dairy exhibits, he remarked, demonstrated that the industry was progressing forwards and upwards in this district. He specially noticed the admirable display of apples, and was deeply impressed by the admirable exhibition of the Department of Agriculture, and urged the value of agricultural training in primary and secondary schools, and the need for a fully equipped and scientific college of agriculture. The attendance was good, and to-night a great crowd thronged the buildings. To-morrow the annual Te Ante-Wanganui College football match will be played, The weather is cold but fine,
