J. T. Smart, a settler at Longbush, Gladstone, committed suicide yesterday afternoon by cutting Ms throat. He left home to muster slieep, and "being absent a long time a ten-year-old son xvas sent to find him, and discovered the body near a clump of scrub. Deceased leaves a wife and seven children. He recently exchanged his farm for one .further north. No cause has yet been assigned for the deed. The body was brought to Carterton at 4 o'clock this morning.
