HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT

WELLINGTON, June 24. WThe following cable message under date London, June 22, has been received from the High Commissioner. Quotations (unless otherwise specified) are average market prices on spot :— General: Thje strike is still unsettled, but business is normal. New Zealand steamers are discharging slowly, and large shipments are arriving. Mutton: The market is weak. Canterbury, 4^d; North Island, 3|d. Lamb: The market is quiet. The shipments of lamb now arriving are very heavy and high prices are restricting business. Canterbury, 6^d; other than Canterbury, 6d. Beef: The market is dull, and supplies of American chilled beef are large. New Zealand hinds, 4|d; New Zealand fores, 3^d. The average prices for River Plate chilled aro: Hinds, 4|d; fores, 3fd. Butter: The market is weaker, with a tendency downwards, and supplies are increasing. The weather continues favorable to an increase of production at Home and on the Continent. Choicest Now Zealand butter, per cwt., 113s; Australian. 107s; Danish, 119s; Siberian, 105s. Cheese: The market is a shade weaker. The Home make, it is expected, will be large. New Zealand colored, 72s ; white, 71s; Canadian, colored, 675; white, 665; English Cheddar, 90s.

Hemp: The market is quiet, but modr ci-!<+£> business is doing. Spot: New Zonland. good fair, £22; New Zealand, fyir. £22 10s; fair current Manila, £22.
